Q: What about candle safety?

A: Candles are safe products, but unless used properly and watched carefully, they can lead to accidental fire. North Ave Candles takes candle care seriously and urge customers to follow the National Candle Association's rules for candle safety:

  • Always keep a burning candle within sight.

  • Never burn a candle on or near anything that may catch fire.

  • Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.

  • Trim candlewicks to 1/4 inch each time before burning.

  • Keep the wax pool free of trimmings, matches, and debris.

  • Keep burning candles away from drafts, vents, ceiling fans, and currents.

  • Never touch or move a candle when the wax is liquid. Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame.

  • Extinguish a candle if it smokes, drastically flickers, or the flame gets too high.

  • Always remove paper dust cover from top of Banned Book Collection candle before burning

  • Always remove crystals/larger botanicals (when possible) from Crystal/Divination candles before burning.
